The other evening our power went out.  Apparently a transformer in our neighborhood blew.  Its a very common occurrence.  I live in an older neighborhood where the power lines are still above ground.  At least once every couple of months something bizarre happens that brings down the power – high winds, car accident, storm, heavy ice, or even too many people using their air conditioner. One thing I like to emphasize to people is that you must read the bible for yourself.  Never let someone else tell you what the Bible says.  If someone says something is in the Bible…look it up.  And don’t just read the verse, read the verses around it so you have a context.  Take your Bible to church; when the minister starts quoting scripture write them down and look them up. The book of Philemon is a little letter Paul wrote to his friend asking him to take back a former slave, Onesimus, who had stolen from him.  There is a several valuable life lessons that we can glean from the 25 verses contained in the book.   Good things can come from bad situations.  Given that Onesimus was a slave he was considered property.  Having a slave run away is basically a loss of one’s property.  Having a slave steal … →
